SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE GAINED

My introduction to this company was via a Y.T.S scheme run by the government which offered local placements to trainees. I was initiall placed in the accounts department to aid in all areas of the department. During this year of my placement I learned all about the accounts systems and to input batches of invoices into the mainframe via a terminal.

After my first year of my two year placement, I felt that the accounts department was not somewhere I wanted a career, and requested a transfer to the computer department. My second year on placement in the computer department was much more to my choice of career, and following the conclusion of my two year placement, I was offered a full time position as a computer operator.

During this role I developed my customer service experience by resolving end user issues with their I.T. equipment. This started off with the mainframe equipment such as terminals and printers but later migrated to the introduction of the IBM personal computers and peripherals.

I also developed my creative skills by creating documentation for departments for use in meetings and creating technical instruction documentation.

At home, I continued to develop my interest in computers by purchasing both the Commodore Amiga 500 and Amiga 2000 and later my first home PC. I had to develop skills which allowed me to use multiple operating systems and commands.
